AdSense is enough when…
- You run a single website and want zero setup.
- Your traffic is small or still growing.
- You do not need video, app or ad-unit-level control.
Both sell your ad space to Google’s advertisers. The difference is how many buyers compete, how much control you get and how you get access. Here is a plain comparison.
AdSense is the easiest way to start: sign up, add the code and Google fills your pages. It is built for websites and gives you few controls.
Google Ad Exchange (AdX) is Google’s programmatic exchange inside Google Ad Manager. It opens your inventory to more buyers and formats and works for apps as well as websites. Google does not offer it as an open sign-up: most publishers get access through an MCM partner such as VisualAds — here is how that works.
If your site earns steadily with AdSense and you want no setup at all, AdSense is fine. If you want more competition for each impression, apps and websites in one account, or formats such as VAST video, AdX through a partner is worth a look.
The practical differences for a publisher.
| Topic | AdSense | AdX via VisualAds |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Open sign-up; Google reviews your site. | Through VisualAds, a Google Ad Manager MCM Partner; a person reviews each property within 24 hours. |
| Inventory | Websites (Google’s app product is AdMob). | Websites and mobile apps in one account. |
| Demand | Google’s advertisers, through the AdSense auction. | AdX plus Open Bidding and header bidding partners — 12 demand partners. |
| Formats | Display, in-feed, in-article, multiplex and Auto ads. | Display, video, rich media, VAST in-stream and native. |
| Control | Mostly automatic; Auto ads choose placements for you. | Ad units you create and manage yourself in the VisualAds dashboard. |
| Reporting | AdSense reports. | Real-time impressions, clicks, eCPM and revenue; downloadable reports. |
| Fees | Google’s revenue share. | Google’s revenue share, then a flat 5% of net revenue to VisualAds. |
| Payments | Monthly from Google once your balance reaches the payment threshold. | Monthly on Net 30, bank transfer in USD, EUR or TRY, $50 minimum. |
| Support | Help Center and community forum. | publisher@visualads.com, answered by a person within 24 hours. |
| Commitment | None. | No long-term contract and no exclusivity. |

Not automatically. AdX brings more buyers, formats and controls, which can lead to higher eCPM, but results depend on your traffic, audience and placements. AdSense is simpler to run.
Most publishers get access through a Google MCM partner. With VisualAds you create an account, submit your site or app, and accept the Google Ad Manager invitation after approval, which takes up to 24 hours.
Yes. AdX demand is available for mobile apps as well as websites through Google Ad Manager. AdSense is for websites; Google’s app product is AdMob.
VisualAds keeps a flat 5% of net revenue, and you keep 95%. Google’s own revenue share applies in both AdSense and AdX.
AdSense pays monthly once your balance reaches Google’s payment threshold. VisualAds pays monthly on Net 30 terms by bank transfer in USD, EUR or TRY, with a $50 minimum.
